The downsides to many consumer grade projectors are many: their picture quality is far less superior than their LCD Smart TV counterparts; and their pricey bulbs need replacing every few thousand hours of use.

By introducing its ProBeam HD Laser Projector (HF80JA) to the highly competitive DLP market, LG has eliminated all of the concerns of picture quality and costly bulb replacements. LG’s newest projector lets you enjoy the HD movie experience without worrying about image quality or the duration of your equipment.

Performance

This projector uses a laser (instead of a lightbulb) that can generate up to 20,000 hours of output at 2,000 lumens. Even though a 4K image resolution would have cemented its place as one of the best laser projectors on the market, the 1080p resolution is an industry standard and the contrast ratio of 150,000:1 is impressive.

Connectivity

As one would expect from the leader in LED projectors, the HF80JA is designed around connectivity. Equipped with a full arsenal of ports that include HDMI, USB, RGB, S/PDIF (OPTICAL), 3.5mm headphone jack, and Ethernet, LG’s ProBeam can be used as a central hub for all of your entertainment devices.

Compatibility

Featuring LG’s intuitive webOS platform and supported by wireless video streaming through the Miracast and the Plus Mobile App, viewers have access to a full wealth of apps – from Netflix to Hulu Plus. The ProBeam comes with built-in Wireless Mirroring – a feature that integrates with Miracast to display content from smart devices onto your large projector screen. For the full movie surround-sound experience, LG’s home theater projector comes with a Bluetooth audio output that seamlessly connects to smart speakers.

Intelligent Design

With a picture as big as 120 inches diagonal, the full cinematic viewing experience comes from a super-sleek compact projector that weighs just 4.6 lbs. The “compact, standing-type design,” is truly unique and since it’s a well-polished, modern-looking unit – it fits nicely into any living/entertainment room.

Like most LG products, they strike the perfect balance between a high-tech appliance and elegant feel to them and it makes for an easy integration into any smart home.

Technology

Equipped with an advanced I-shaped laser engine and supported by Keystone Alignment technology, you’ll never experience a bad picture throughout the 20,000 hours of output. The alignment feature automatically detects and corrects any screen image distortion – making this a worry-free viewing experience for everyone.

Accompanying the ProBeam laser projector is a state-of-the-art remote control that operates the LG’s webOS Smart TV interface.

Bottom Line

With the limitations of poor projector resolution gone and access to an award-winning webOS platform readily-available, you pretty much have everything you need for a user-friendly, yet highly intuitive home theater experience. Sure, a 4K picture resolution would have been nice, but is it a deal breaker? I don’t think so. There’s just too many bells and whistles that come with this compact, lightweight laser projector that seems to love integrating with other smart devices.

There’s something truly special about pulling down a screen, turning on an HD-quality projector, and watching a new release. The experience can’t be duplicated by a flat screen TV.
